Five Rivers Festival 2019

Five Rivers Festival 2019

Monday 27th May 2019

Applications for the 2019 Five Rivers Festival are now closed.

In celebration of the five rivers that pass through Salisbury – the Avon, Nadder, Ebble, Wylye and Bourne – comes the ‘Five Rivers Festival’. Join us in paying tribute to these beautiful stretches of water by taking part in some exciting events on May Bank Holiday weekend.

In the morning, we have three events taking place around Ashley Green – a River Float, two Bubble Football events and a special Car Boot Sale. We also hope to have Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and the Salisbury & District Angling Club providing educational talks about aquatic bug life and river conservation.

The River Float is an opportunity for competent swimmers aged 12+ to float down a 0.8 mile stretch of the River Avon from Stink Pot Bridge at Stratford-sub-Castle down to Ashley Road. There are plenty of viewing points along the Board Walk of the Avon Valley Nature Reserve for those who want to come and support.

At the end of the River Float, on Ashley Green, the Fire Station will be holding a special Car Boot Sale offering a great chance to sell your unwanted possessions, or to pick up a bargain.

In the afternoon, we switch to the other side of the City and a 100 metre stretch of the River Avon from the Sea Cadet building down to Churchill Gardens. There will be three extremely entertaining and competitive River Races, all for competent swimmers aged 16+. There will be a Ladies’ Race, a Men’s Race and a Team Race. Three viewing areas will help this a real spectacle and fun event!

There will be hot and cold refreshments at each venue as well as additional entertainment for children.

The Five Rivers Festival 2019 is organised by Salisbury Rotary Club in association with the Fire Station and is sponsored by:

Whats On Guide...

River Float

The River Float is an opportunity for competent swimmers aged 12+ to float down a 0.8 mile stretch of the River Avon from Stink Pot Bridge at Stratford-sub-Castle down to Ashley Road. There are plenty of viewing points along the Board Walk of the Avon Valley Nature Reserve for those who want to come and support. The first group need to register at Ashley Green at 8.15am and will be floating down from 9.10am to roughly 10.10am with further groups following at roughly 30 minute intervals.

Up to 8 people can float down the river at the same time so if you want to book up with friends, you can book up to 8 places at a time. The Float is anticipated to take around 40 minutes, however the amount of time will depend of the flow rate of the river on the day. Enjoy the often forgotten scenic river delights of Salisbury whilst travelling at your own speed. Take in all the sights and the sounds, and make the most of this fun opportunity!

River Race

In the afternoon, we switch to the other side of the City and a 100 metre stretch of the River Avon from the Sea Cadet building down to Churchill Gardens. Team Registration is at 1.30pm with races starting at 2pm and finishing around 5.30pm. There will be two extremely entertaining and competitive River Races, all for competent swimmers aged 16+. There will be an Individual Race and a Team Race. Three viewing areas will help this a real spectacle and fun event!

All those entering will then be able to enter the individual Race. Both races will start with heats and then move onto semis and then finals. All races are open to competent swimmers aged 16+.

Car Boot

Fancy grabbing yourself a bargain? Or perhaps you have some unwanted possessions at home you need to get rid of? This special Car Boot Sale, run by Salisbury Fire Station, will take place at Ashley Green (opposite the Fire Station). You can book a single or double pitch and spaces will be limited.

With the River Float and Bubble Football events taking place at the same time and in the same vicinity, we are expecting a lot of footfall. So why not come and join us Bank Holiday Monday and make some money!

Volunteer at the 2019 Five Rivers Festival

The Festival is a charity event being run by local people for the residents of Salisbury. There is a lot going on during the day, so if you, friends or family are able to help out by volunteering, that would be greatly appreciated. Please send an email to rotary5rf@gmail.com. Many thanks.
