Wildlife Garden taking shape

In conjunction with  Wilton Rotary club  the gazebo element of the wildlife garden project is now complete. The build took place over the summer holidays and we are most gateful for the support of of Sarum Rotary members without their help the building would not have been possible

When finished this will provide the West Salisbury Science Cluster with the following facilities based at Woodland Primary School.

Still to do is the fence, the water irrigation system and maybe some painting.

The resource will allow the cluster  schools to include Forest Studies in their curriculum. This is a long-term approach to education, for children, that maximizes the benefits of learning in the outdoors. It involves a holistic understanding of how children learn and supports them to build confidence, resilience, independence and creativity.

The project was funded by the Rotary clubs, Rotary foundation and a Rotary District donation, enabling work to commence in October 2019 with the construction of the vegetable & flower beds, Bug Hotel and the Hedgehog boxes. The gazebo element was due to be installed over Easter 2020. However due to the current Corvid-19 situation this had to be delayed until July.  When the school returns in September this will not only provide the school with a new facility, but also a much needed additional classroom to ease the pressure on existing classrooms in the current situation.

This is a perfect example of the local Rotary clubs coming together and undertaking a practical community project which not only benefits young people but is great fun to do.
